With less than 2 weeks before Purim, Jews are busy preparing costumes and shaloch manos or looking for ideas for them! For many years we have done coordinated costumes and shaloch manos, which is very fun, but certainly a lot of work! With those I try to find a container that matches our theme.
In general, I am always looking for new ways to waste less and find products that can be reused. This year, I wanted to apply that to Purim shaloch manos. I researched containers that might be good to package shaloch manos and that could later be used again. Check out my finds! Of course, the container you choose also depends on your budget, and I know many years that has meant simply a decorative bag for us!
*Note: Be sure to measure the items you want to include before buying any of these containers to be sure they will all fit!
Color-changing tumblers: These cute tumblers would be great for shaloch manos with several themes including a particular color, artists, birthday, carnival, and coffee shop. You could include items in the cup or alongside it.
Wooden gift baskets: So cute! These small baskets could be used with almost any theme! They also come with the outer bags and bows to tie them up!
Cardboard baskets: These baskets are a bit larger than the previous ones and can hold a variety of items and used for a variety of themes.
Baskets with handles (solids): These are a slightly different version of the baskets above, only they have handles. They come in several solid colors, which is great for whatever theme you choose!
Baskets with handles (patterns): If you like the kraft baskets above, but want a little more design, check out these cute baskets. They come in polka dots (brown or white base color), pastels, stripes, and rimmed (brown with gold or brown with silver).
Aluminum cups: I have featured these cups in my favorite products. They are infinitely recyclable and are a great alternative to plastic cups. I love to use these at Shabbos lunch when we are already using disposable paper goods. So much plastic does not get recycled, so this makes me feel good to be using one less thing that might end up in a landfill. Pair these with a drink and some candy and it makes a cute shaloch manos! Good for a silver theme, too!
Divided plastic containers: We used these 4-compartment containers the year we did a Four Seasons theme (See “Shaloch manos (and) costume gallery 2024“). We included a different food in each section! No additional packaging needed and they are great to use for lunches and snacks later!
Sunflower gift bags: These are so cute that you will definitely want to reuse them after giving them as a shaloch manos (hopefully your recipient will, too). I love having a variety of bags to use for errands, as well as gift-giving. They would be good to carry a few things on Shabbos, too! Great for a summer, flower, gardeners, yellow, or snack theme.
Recycled gift bags: If you are only giving a few shaloch manos, these cute bags are a little more expensive, but are made from recycled materials and come in a few cute patterns. Your recipient will definitely want to reuse it! Good for any variety of foods and themes!
Iridescent gift bags: How beautiful! I have received gifts in bags of this type and love them! I use them all the time for errands and gifts! They could go well with a silver theme, space, wedding, and more! They come in gold as well. They are very cheap if you get a pack of 100.
Holographic bags: Wow! The effect of these is simply gorgeous! Your items can be seen through the bag, but the holographic colors provide a fantastic rainbow! Good for many themes: space, princess, silver, rainbow, sparkle, and more! Your recipient will want to use it again just because it looks so cool! I am imagining them as a cute snack or treat bag in lunches!
Snack pack containers – I can see a million uses for these double compartment containers. You could use them alone, add them with other items, or stack more than one. These could definitely be used later in lunches, for snacks, for outings, and more!
